After leaving school at 16 with few qualifications Tessa joined R. H. Stevens Tankers, in Macclesfield, as a Clerical Assistant.
Promoted to Transport Manager
Since joining the company she has amassed an impressive array of qualifications – as well as a promotion to Transport Manager (Tankers). Tessa successfully completed an Advanced Apprenticeship (NVQ level 3) in Driving Goods Vehicles and she recently passed her Class 1 driving licence, which qualifies her to drive 44 tonne articulated goods vehicles, the largest allowed on British roads. Tessa has achieved all this with the help of her company and a local training provider.
Tessa says
“There are lots of opportunities in the industry to progress into well paid jobs.” She adds that her job is particularly rewarding because the industry “is so important to everyone’s lives – you only have to think about your shopping basket in the local supermarket. Everything on the shelves that you buy has had to be transported by the logistics industry at some point.”
