Stacey BirdI have been working at Pickfords head office in Wembley for the last year as a Client Services Assistant for Pickfords’ Employee Moving Division. This is a specialist division that manages the relocation of company employees moving for job-related reasons. I work as part of a small team to liaise between the family that is moving and the employer, our client.

I spend most of the day either on the telephone or at my desk on the PC. It’s my job to organise removals and ensure that the Pickfords branches meet the expectations of the client. I also arrange quotations and invoices and I produce and analyse monthly reports which give the client information about the moves we have carried out and how much each one costs.

If there are problems on move day, I am the first point of contact and have to take action to resolve the issues as they happen. This is the most challenging part of my job.

What do you like about the job?

It’s very varied and busy, and I learn something new about the industry every day. Moving is a really emotional time for some of our moving families and it’s great when the moves go really well.

What do you dislike?

Despite out best efforts to make the move go as smoothly as possible, customers don’t always see it the same way – this can be stressful to deal with at times.

What made you choose a career in the transport industry?

I was a make up artist working in the retail environment. I didn’t like the hours so this job suited me better. My partner also works as a removals driver for another removals company, so we now speak a common language!

How would you like your career to progress?

At some point I would like to learn more about international moving, and continue to work in the corporate area dealing with large companies moving their employees overseas.
