Why did you choose a career in Logistics?
I have always worked in a transport environment and wanted to join a large logistics company for better development and career opportunities.
My career to date:
Merton Cleaning Supplies
Telephone Sales
Timsons Removals
Trainee Removals Manager
Kuehne + Nagel
Transport Co-ordinator.
I was the first point of contact for all drivers in the transport department at the Bardon, Leicestershire depot. I dealt with everyday operational issues, such as vehicle breakdowns and staff absences.
Transport First Line Manager.
I managed Transport Co-ordinators, Drivers and office staff. I was responsible for ensuring that the department met its expected targets, such as on time deliveries.
Transport Planning Manager.
I was responsible for planning the transport for our BP and KFC contracts and I looked after four depots in Bardon, Chepstow, Warrington and Dagenham. One of my responsibilities in this role was to create transport schedules for depots. These provided the drivers with specific delivery times and routes.
Transport Project Analyst.
I reviewed a range of Kuehne + Nagel’s transport operations and proposed improvements, which led to reduced costs for the company. I also worked with the Business Development Team when they tendered for new business contracts.
PS / QSHE Manager.
I am currently responsible for health and safety matters at the Bardon, Leicestershire site and as such I ensure that Kuehne + Nagel’s employees are not at risk of injury whilst at work. Supported by the company’s General Managers I work on specific projects to reduce company costs and improve service levels.
What would you say to anyone considering a career in Logistics?
Even as technology advances there will always be a need to get goods from supplier to customer and as teleportation of goods is probably a long way off, logistics is a secure career for many years to come.
