Why did you choose a career in Logistics?
Originally, for its global potential, but then I discovered a passion for the dynamic industry in which you have the ability to make a difference at all times. There is always a new challenge!
My career to date:
2005 – CILT 2 year Graduate Programme
This incorporated various placements in airfreight, contract logistics and road freight. This was a fantastic opportunity to experience logistics from multiple angles and study for a professional qualification at the same time.
2007 – Road Logistics Key Accounts
In this role I was involved with the business implementation of newly acquired customers. I dealt directly with our customers, dealing with their queries, setting up key performance indicators and resolving any issues for them, which arose during the implementation period.
2008 – Road Logistics Customer Service Supervisor
I was responsible for a team focused on our European export operation. My role involved: ensuring that transit times were met in the most cost effective way; knowing where each shipment was at every stage of its journey and ensuring that each shipment’s status was always visible on our tracking systems.
2009 – Operations Manager
I was responsible for three major operations within North West Europe. I led a team which was responsible for the arrival and final deliveries of: all European groupage import freight; the ‘less than container load’ collections and the final mile deliveries.
2011 – to date Regional Project Manager, Singapore
The primary function of my current role is to build Kuehne + Nagel’s transport network in China and India, in line with corporate targets.
What would you say to anyone considering a career in Logistics?
I started my career with limited knowledge about logistics and it was a step into the unknown, but wow it sure paid off! I am living in Asia and having conversations in Asia with senior management about global strategy for a company that employs 62,500 staff and a turnover of £10 billion! By being adaptable, willing to learn and motivated to take on different challenges, anything is possible in this industry!!
