Royal Mail Group is made up of four businesses: Royal Mail Letters, Post Office Limited, Parcelforce Worldwide and General Logistics Systems which is the European parcels business.  Within the UK, the company directly employs around 170,000 people.

Every working day Royal Mail Letters processes and delivers 72 million items of mail to 28 million addresses in the UK. Post Office Limited serves 24 million customers each week through its network of 12,000 Post Office outlets. Each year Parcelforce Worldwide and General Logistics Systems handle 404 million parcels.

Although the Business has existed for hundreds of years there is always a need to change and Royal Mail is investing £2 billion to transform the business through modernisation – renewing premises and equipment and introducing new technology.  An example of this transformation is the introduction of machinery which will sort mail more quickly and efficiently to help provide a better and more consistent quality of service to customers whilst keeping prices as low as possible.
