Higher education

People are needed from every background
The logistics industry needs graduates for a variety of roles. You could be working in operations management, IT, Finance, Human Resources – and a range of specialist roles like supply chain management, warehouse management, import and export and transport planning.
Whilst a technical degree in engineering or supply chain management is essential for some positions, the industry is very diverse and requires people from many backgrounds. Subjects such as economics, marketing, IT, business studies, geography, environmental studies and languages may be particularly relevant, but there are roles for applicants with a wide range of transferable skills. You could also follow a foundation degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) – for example in supply chain management.
Businesses are looking for people who can communicate well in person and in writing, and team players with strong analytical and problem-solving skills who are able to multitask.
There is also a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses available with tailored modules for those wishing to enter a career in transport, distribution, logistics, and supply chain management. General management courses increasingly include modules on these subjects while other courses focus on particular supply chain management disciplines.
