Storage and Warehousing

Warehouses operate by storing all sorts of products and then dispatching them to where they are needed.  All sorts of goods are stored in warehouses including; chemicals, electrical goods, textiles, foodstuffs and so on. Storage and Warehousing occupations account for 11% of the workforce, working out of 5,725 workplaces.

Forklift truck operator

Forklift truck operators transport heavy goods around factories, warehouses and other premises, loading and unload goods from vehicles such as lorries and aircraft.

Order picker

Order pickers, also known as pickers, work in warehouses or large stores. Pickers receive batches of picking slips for goods and have to select and sort items within a certain time limit. They may also monitor stock levels.

Packing operative / manager

Packing operatives (also known as packers) pack products. Products are packed to protect them during transportation, maintaining their appearance for display and preserving any contents that are perishable.
